Anon at 1:40 is correct.A country can take advantage of a lack of patent protection just as India has done with pharmaceuticals. That doesn't mean the lack of such protection encourages innovation. It just means the other countries are pararites.Masketing of pharmaceuticals is very expensive, but unfortunately, it is also necessary. I have a treatment for cancer in a test tube in front of me but no-one is banging down my door (except for the bailiffs, but that's another story).
Makes a lot of sense, given that archaeology shows the earliest settlement path in Siberia moving East toward Beringia, rather than up along the coast line. As I have often stated, to me the more fascinating question is how the people got there (~050000-00,0,4ya?) and into Siberia, in the first place (presumably from South Asia) - especially since there is little in common with migrations that ended up farther west and ultimately in Europe (with the exception of some common mtDNA lineages).
September 20, 2012 at 2:20 pmhow does low mortgage rates acopmclish anything? I borrow 250K to buy a house. Mortgage rates fall 1%. Yea, except the money I have in bonds I lose 1% interest as rates fall. Unless you have no money in bank or locked in long term non callable bonds rates falling is a zero sum game
